I got a call the other day, someone wanted to put in a pocket door. OK, no problem, I can take a look and see what is really going on. When I get to the house, the home owner tells me that she has already done the bathroom, and just needs a pocket door put in so her mom who is now in a wheel chair can use the bath.
Indeed, this bathroom had been redone, tiled from floor to ceiling, wall to wall.
It is impossible for the door to be able to pocket into this wall. The problem here is that there is no place to move the switches or receptacle. A pocket door needs everything to be removed from the wall so the door can move in and out.
Our home owner was taken aback, "but I told you what to do" she said. Unfortunately, there is no way to widen the doorway without redoing this bath.
My advice: Before doing any bath renovation, consult a professional.
